UV-light helps to indicate several kinds of materials or old repairs, e.g. fluoresces shellac orange and most glues whitish under UV-light. The knowledge of all used materials is very important for the right treatment of the instrument if you don’t want to risk damaging parts of the instrument. Sometimes UV-light even helps to make old signatures readable again.
