The cleaning of a guitar is a very delicate process if you don’t want to delete the grown patina which gives the instrument its individual historical aura. Only in very few cases the cleaning result is so clear like it was with the restoration of a lyre guitar made by G. Vinaccia in 1810. After the cleaning the true colour of the bindings got visible and the right kind of wood could be chosen for the replacement of the decorations.
